I've known some addicts. I think I've even been an addict myself. Addicts usually have one favorite addiction; but rarely do they have only one addiction.
We've been told for years now that America is addicted to foreign oil. This seems a little weird to me; this personification of the country. However, I can go with it. And I propose that this is not America's only addiction. America also seems to be addicted to Capitalism.
In order to understand what I'm trying to say, one must be able to see the Government separate from the Economics.
I see the Government as an institution of the people, by the people, for the people. I see the Economy as the opportunity to make a million or lose a million. That's what Capitalism is. It's a gamble. And now my main question: Why should the American Government be so dependent on the practice of Capitalistic economics? Can the American Government benefit more from a socialist economy and remain a democratic government? Is the American Dream to live in a democratic government free from tyrannical rule or is the Dream to participate in a free-market capitalistic gamble?
I feel like if the promise of the American Dream is to live in freedom; then it is of no consequence what economic system is practiced.
To me, a country that promises freedom and equality to all, would support a socialist economic system because it would make everyone equal financially. This would eliminate class structure, social structure and a whole host of societal problems.
Why is Socialism such a bad word? In theory, it seems well intended.
Why can we not have a democratic government and a socialistic economy? Why can we not have a capitalistic economy and a democratic-socialist government separate from one another?
It's plain and simple; Our Government has already been bought and paid for by Capitalism.
